It is the relationship between food and a <a href=\"https:\/\/gabbie.templweb.com\/meal-plans\/mediterranean\/\">healthy<\/a> body.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nutrients\u00a0<\/h4><p>Nutrients are the substances that our bodies need to grow and live. We require more than 45 different nutrients which are all used in different ways.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Macronutrients:<\/h4><p>Carbohydrates, protein and fat are all macronutrients. Macronutrients are metabolized (broken down) in order to provide energy.<\/p><p>\u2022 Carbohydrates: The starches and sugars we eat serve as the body\u2019s main source of readily available fuel. Eating lower glycemic carbohydrates is important for good insulin control.<\/p><p>\u2022 Protein: Dietary protein is used to repair tissue, build muscle, form immune and blood cells, and manufacture hormones. Proteins are made up of amino acids. While some amino acids are produced in our cells, the essential amino acids have to be provided by our diets.<\/p><p>\u2022 Fat: Dietary fat is a critical component of good health. It\u2019s important to limit consumption of saturated fats and focus on unsaturated fats which help keep cell membranes flexible and regulate the amount of cholesterol circulating in our blood.\u00a0<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Micronutrients:<\/h4><p>Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients. Micronutrients are not directly used for energy, but are necessary in small amounts in order for our bodies to function properly as they assist in a wide array of our body\u2019s processes.<\/p><p>The foods we eat have a huge impact on our daily functions, level of <a href=\"https:\/\/gabbie.templweb.com\/meal-plans\/optimal-performance\/\">fitness<\/a>, and most importantly our health.
